The garden design process is very much a collaborative experience and each client, just like their garden, is unique so there is no fixed garden design approach. The process outlined below can be tailored to your needs.

This is an informal visit where we will meet, ideally have a walk round your garden and discuss a garden design brief and budgets. It is an opportunity for me to view the spaces in question and meet you and likewise you can to meet me and have a look at some work.

Following this I will then send you, in writing, a summary of our meeting, your design brief and an outline of the services discussed and applicable design fees. There is no charge for this meeting.

On acceptance of the garden design quotation a site survey will be carried out. Typically this involves taking measurements, photographs as well as detailed information from your garden such as levels and aspect. Depending on the complexity and size of the garden design, a professional land surveyor will undertake this work.  I can instruct a land surveyor on your behalf.

Based on our initial consultation, the garden design brief and the site analysis and survey I will draw up outline sketches and mood boards. At this stage we will review the concept design and adjust the garden design as required.

Once you are happy with the concept design, a detailed Master Plan is drawn up, including detailed annotation and suggested materials.  Additionally we offer 3D modelling to enable you to visualise your new garden design with ease.

In order to implement your new garden design I can recommend accredited professional landscaping contractors and prepare the detailed construction drawings and documentation required in order to tender the project. This may include;

  • Detailed specification
  • Lighting / irrigation / drainage plans
  • Construction details
  • Meeting the Landscapers on site to discuss the project
  • Liaising with the Landscapers to assist with Q&A during the tender process
  • Collating and analysing the quote
  • Meeting to discuss the quotes and act as liaison with the Landscapers

This process ensures the Landscapers fully understand your requirements and the detailed specification as well as enabling the Landscapers to provide quotes that are comparable and competitive and ultimately deliver quality work.

With a solid horticultural knowledge, planting plans which take into account height, colours, textures and seasonal interest to achieve an attractive well-balanced scheme can be created.  Additionally we source quality planting from UK nurseries to bring your garden design to life.

Collaborating with a number of trades and supplier can be challenging, we can manage the contract process on your behalf; this typically involves:

  • Liaising with all appointed contractors on matters such as timescales and quotes.
  • Checking materials and measurements
  • Checking build quality
  • Resolving any issues arising during the build
  • Ensuring the project stays on track and on budget

With a pre-agreed schedule of site visits to oversee the construction at key stages this service is invaluable in ensuring that the garden design successfully evolves from plan to reality.
